FWD.us Statement: Reintroduction of the American Dream and Promise Act (H.R. 6)

WASHINGTON, DC – FWD.us President Todd Schulte issued the following statement today on the reintroduction of the American Dream and Promise Act, vital legislation that would create a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers and TPS holders:

“Given the urgent threat facing DACA recipients and TPS holders, as both policies make their way through the courts, we are very pleased to see the American Dream and Promise Act reintroduced today. This vital legislation passed the last Congress with bipartisan support, and there is no reason why Democrats and Republicans cannot come together and swiftly pass this bill again.

“Americans overwhelmingly support protecting these communities, who have lived, worked, and built families in the U.S. for decades. Millions are helping keep food on our tables and caring for the sick as essential frontline workers. Their contributions are vital to our nation’s continued public health and economic recovery from COVID-19, but without a pathway to citizenship, DACA recipients and TPS holders remain at risk of being ripped out of their jobs and separated from their families. At the same time, no legislation is without room for improvement. This bill does not provide a pathway to citizenship for the full undocumented population, and we urge the authors not to further exclude people who have had contact with the harsh and overly punitive criminal legal system.

“We will continue fighting to provide these individuals and their families a pathway to citizenship, and urge Congress to act to protect American families and grow our economy.”
