WASHINGTON, DC – FWD.us Oklahoma State Director Shanna Gong issued the following statement after the Oklahoma House of Representatives and Senate passed 5 urgently-needed reforms to Oklahoma’s criminal justice system:
“We applaud Oklahoma state lawmakers for advancing five critical criminal justice reforms in the state legislature that will begin to address the state’s harsh and punitive pretrial and sentencing practices. With the advancement of these reforms, Oklahoma moves one step closer to shedding the title of America’s #1 incarcerator.
“There is an incarceration crisis in Oklahoma, and voters across the state have called on their elected officials to make criminal justice reform a priority this session. We urge the legislature to quickly move these reforms across the finish line and ultimately to the Governor’s desk for signature.”
