FWD.us Statement on the House Judiciary Committee’s Report on Family Separation

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the House Judiciary Committee issued a report on the Trump Administration’s family separation policy entitled, “The Trump Administration’s Family Separation Policy: Trauma, Destruction, and Chaos.” FWD.us President Todd Schulte issued the following statement on the release of this report:

“The Family Separation report issued today by the House Judiciary Committee makes clear that just days after the inauguration, the Trump Administration began planning to enact their horrific policy of family separation. The report shows the Administration knew they had no way to track or reunite these families, but they did it anyway. The results: over 5,000 children separated and at least 545 children have still had no contact with their parents years later. Moreover, without the dedication of lawyers and advocates at the border and a massive public outcry, the Administration had plans to separate as many as 25,000 children.

“This was done in our name. It is absolutely awful. Families belong together. We are thankful to learn this morning that, if elected, the Biden/Harris Administration has committed to immediately setting up a task force to reunite these families. We will continue to work to ensure that the policies that led to the separation of thousands of families at the border cannot be repeated and to see these families reunited.”

Earlier this month, FWD.us issued its own report on the Trump Administration’s family separation policies. That report can be found here.
