Department of Justice’s Cert Petition on DACA

WASHINGTON, DC – FWD.us President Todd Schulte issued the following statement today after the Department of Justice took the unusual step of filing cert to bypass three federal courts of appeal (California, District of Columbia, New York) and expedite review of DACA litigation to the Supreme Court:

Tonight, the Trump Administration took an extraordinary step in its effort to bypass three federal courts to end DACA as soon as possible and see hundreds of thousands of Dreamers subject to deportation. The filing shows the Department of Justice is moving ahead on what they promised two months ago: to ‘take every lawful measure’ to terminate the DACA program, subjecting to deportation 800,000 young people who know no other country as home.

“Eighty-six percent of Americans think Dreamers should be protected from deportation; that the Administration is moving forward with this extraordinary effort just hours before an election is a clear indication of how dedicated Attorney General Jeff Sessions is to seeing legal status stripped from 800,000 Dreamers.”
