FWD.us Statement on Temporary Protected Status for Venezuela

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, the United States Senate failed to pass the House’s Temporary Protected Status bill in an expeditious fashion by voice vote. FWD.us President Todd Schulte issued the following statement:

“Last week, the House of Representatives took the correct step given the extremely dire conditions in Venezuela and passed legislation to grant Temporary Protected Status to immigrants from that country. They did so on a strong, bipartisan basis — and we are greatly appreciative for this.

“We are disappointed that the Senate failed to move this bill forward today in an expeditious fashion. Senate Leadership should bring this critical legislation to the floor for a full vote immediately before leaving on recess for six weeks. Venezuela is in crisis, and is experiencing devastating economic, humanitarian and political upheaval. This bill is the only path to relief for thousands of Venezuelans who deserve protection from deportation to a country under severe despair.”
