FWD.us Statement on H.R. 1060 in the Georgia House of Representatives

ATLANTA, GA – FWD.us Georgia State Director Sam Aguilar issued the following statement today on H.R. 1060, which creates a House Study Committee on Business and Legal Immigration to address the barriers faced by immigrants and refugees in the State of Georgia:

“We are encouraged that bipartisan leaders in the State House are taking steps to learn about and address the barriers to economic participation faced by immigrants and refugees in Georgia. For generations, the entrepreneurial spirit of immigrants from all walks of life has contributed to the vibrancy of Georgia’s economy, and to our communities. Immigrants make up a tenth of Georgia’s population and play an outsized role in supporting crucial industries like agriculture and healthcare, particularly in rural parts of our state. Policies that build a welcoming, inclusive Georgia will make the state stronger across the board and are vital to our continued economic success.

“We are thankful to the co-sponsors of this resolution — Representative Cantrell, Representative Harrell, Representative Efstration, Representative Greene, Representative Cheokas and Representative Nguyen — for working to create more opportunities for immigrants so Georgia can continue to thrive as the number one state in which to do business. We look forward to working with members of this study committee to highlight the contributions and needs of Georgia’s immigrant and refugee communities.”
