FWD.us Statement on Federal Judge’s Temporary Injunction on Trump Administration’s Public Charge Policy

WASHINGTON, DC – FWD.us President Todd Schulte issued the following statement today after a federal judge temporarily blocked implementation of the Trump Administration’s public charge policy:

“Judge George Daniels’ decision to block the Trump Administration’s ‘public charge’ policy is welcomed news. These policy changes are an effort to substantially reduce legal immigration in the United States and punish legal immigrants for using benefits to which they are legally entitled to receive.

“The Administration’s proposed changes to the public charge rule would only hurt our families, communities and economy, all of which are made stronger and more prosperous because of the contributions of immigrants of all skill levels. Immigrants are vital contributors to their communities and the economy, paying taxes and creating jobs.

“We’re grateful to all who discussed the impacts, without increasing fear and chaos in vulnerable communities.”

ON BACKGROUND:
In October 2018, more than a quarter of a million public comments were filed in response to the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on the public charge policy, overwhelmingly in opposition to the Trump Administration’s proposed changes.
