FWD.us Statement on New Bipartisan Legislation to Protect Dreamers from Deportation

WASHINGTON, DC – FWD.us President Todd Schulte issued the following statement today on the introduction of new bipartisan legislation that creates an earned pathway to citizenship for Dreamers and strengthens border security:

“We are very encouraged by the bipartisan effort led by Senators John McCain (R-AZ) and Chris Coons (D-DE) to bring meaningful legislation to the floor that would permanently protect Dreamers from deportation while strengthening border security. This bill takes important steps forward to invest in border security and would provide certainty for nearly 800,000 Dreamers and their loved ones who worry every day whether they will be able to continue living, working, and serving their communities in the only country they know as home.

“Dreamers’ families, communities, and employers across the country urgently need Congress to pass a permanent legislative solution that will prevent their lives from being upended. The time to pass legislation to protect Dreamers is now and this bipartisan, narrow approach is the type of legislation that can get the 218 votes in the House and 60 votes in the Senate needed.”
