FWD.us Statement Announcing a New Public Comment Tool for the Flores Settlement Agreement

New Online Tool Will Allow Public to Easily Submit Comments on New Regulation

WASHINGTON, DC – FWD.us President Todd Schulte issued the following statement today regarding a new tool that enables the public to submit their comments on the Flores Settlement Agreement, which The Department of Homeland Security aims to eliminate:

“The Administration’s family separation policy was a man made crisis that put children and families at extreme risk. DHS’s decision to gut the Flores Settlement Agreement, which provides protections for children detained by the U.S. Government, would ensure that future children and families seeking safe haven in the U.S. suffer the same consequences. Efforts to undermine the spirit of this decision will do immeasurable harm to children, their families, and our communities and should be immediately reversed.

“The voices of everyday Americans made an enormous impact in forcing the Administration to begin to reunify families this summer. Now that the public comment period for this rule is open, the Administration must again hear from the American people about the extreme damage this rule would inflict, as well as the exorbitant costs of indefinitely jailing children. Given the recent history on this issue, we should be increasing oversight and standards of care for children in our government’s custody, not reducing them.”

In partnership with the Families Belong Together campaign, FWD.us is launching a new tool to help the public submit their comments on this rule. Those who are interested in submitting a public comment can use our online comment submission tool.
