WASHINGTON, DC – FWD.us issued recommendations today for a “YES” vote on S.A. 1958 (Rounds-King) and S.A. 1955 (McCain-Coons), all bipartisan immigration amendments.

Senator Mike Rounds (R-ND) and Senator Angus King (I-ME) introduced S.A. 1958, the Immigration Security and Opportunity Act, which would provide a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers while investing in physical barriers, border technology and tactical infrastructure to further secure the border. Co-sponsors include Sens. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Angus King (I-ME), Joe Manchin (D-WV), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Tim Kaine (D-VA), Jeff Flake (R-AZ), Chris Coons (D-DE), Cory Gardner (R-CO), Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Lamar Alexander (R-TN), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Johnny Isakson (R-GA) and Mark Warner (D-VA).

FWD.us also encourages a “YES” vote on S.A. 1955, introduced by Senator John McCain (R-AZ) and Senator Chris Coons (D-DE). This bipartisan amendment pairs a a permanent path to citizenship for Dreamers with sensible improvements to border security, including strengthening the requirements for border security technology.

FWD.us is also thankful for the bipartisan hardwork and legislative solution put forward by Senators Gardner and Bennett, although it appears this will not receive a vote.

We are thankful to lawmakers for their dedication and hard work to reach across the aisle and work toward a bipartisan compromise. While there are certain provisions of these amendments that we do not support, and expect this is true of people on both sides of the aisle, we believe compromise is necessary in this moment.

The American public overwhelmingly supports giving Dreamers the chance to stay in the United States permanently, including 86% of all Americans and 76% of Republicans. For lawmakers, the choice is crystal clear: They can either vote to protect America’s Dreamers and increase border security, or they can choose to subject people to deportation from the country that is their home. It is time for Congress to take action and fix this crisis.
