Arizona has the 4th largest prison population in the country. That’s because Arizona is one of only three states that requires ALL persons in prison to serve at least 85% of their sentence.

And the results are disastrous — people convicted of drug crimes in Arizona spend 40% longer in prison than the national average. For property crimes, people in Arizona spend almost twice as long in prison.

This system costs Arizona more than $1 billion every year, and isn’t making us any safer. Call your legislator and ask them to support meaningful sentencing reform in Arizona.
