Governor Andrew Cuomo has signed the Green Light NY bill into law.

This law will give every New Yorker, regardless of immigration status, who goes through the process and examination required by the state a chance to apply for a standard driver’s license. This includes taking a the same driver’s education course and driving test as everyone else in New York State. Additionally, those applying for a standard driver’s license under the Green Light Law must provide proof of New York State residency.As a result, New York State stands to earn an estimated $57 million in combined annual revenues and $26 million in one-time revenues.

This new law will make roads safer for everyone, by ensuring that all drivers are appropriately licensed, registered, insured, and able to get their cars inspected.

Additionally, the New York Greenlight law will make communities across the state safer, freeing up law enforcement to concentrate on real public safety priorities.
