WASHINGTON, D.C. — This morning, The Wall Street Journal published a new article about the federal watchdog investigation into former DHS Secretary Kristi Noem’s warehouse purchases for ICE detention centers.
“Today’s story comes amidst bipartisan pushback to these mega warehouse jails and congressional inquiries into this expansion while the administration is plowing ahead to secure $71 billion more on top of the existing $171 billion for ICE and CBP. With nearly $40 billion of spending under investigation, congressional Republicans should halt their efforts to send tens of billions more for this drastic, incredibly unpopular expansion of jail and prison beds,” said Todd Schulte, President of FWD.us.
Last month, U.S. Senator Chris Murphy, the Ranking Member of the DHS Appropriations Subcommittee, sent letters to more than 20 jurisdictions that are potential sites of warehouse detention centers, warning of the serious fiscal, economic and community consequences of these massive facilities.
