FWD.us Statement on the Bureau of Prison Directive to Fully Implement First Step Act and the Second Chance Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. – FWD.us Executive Director Zoë Towns issued the following statement today after Federal Bureau of Prisons Director William Marshall III issued a new directive taking steps to fully implement the First Step Act and the Second Chance Act:

“This is welcome and overdue news that puts us on the path to full implementation of the First Step Act and the Second Chance Act. For years, incarcerated people and their families, lawmakers from across the political spectrum, and public safety experts have pushed for changes that deliver on the promise of these bipartisan reforms — most critically that we maximize the earned time opportunities that can bring people safely home.

“We hope this directive is embraced fully and implemented swiftly and we stand ready to support efforts like these to reduce excessive prison terms and reunite families.”
