UPDATE 3/25/2026: Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) has introduced S.J. Res 99, a joint resolution to overturn the Trump administration’s elimination of the automatic work authorization renewal policy. If passed by the Senate and the House, this joint resolution under the Congressional Review Act would overturn the Trump administration's rescission and restore the automatic extension policy.
Additionally, the Trump administration has published a new proposed rule that would severely restrict the ability of asylum applicants to apply for work authorization while completing the legal process of their asylum case in the U.S. Public comments are open until April 12, 2026.
