She attended a scheduled immigration appointment, but less than 24 hours later, she was detained and deported. Maria returned home following a federal judge’s ruling that she must be returned, but the emotional toll of this experience, including the devastation of being taken away from her 22-year-old daughter, lingers.
Children, including U.S. citizens, are experiencing trauma and instability as their parents are detained, deported, or pushed out of the workforce because of processing failures.
