ICYMI: In Days Leading Up To Thanksgiving, Dreamers Give Back To Their Communities

This week, Dreamers across the country are engaging in service opportunities to help their neighbors and communities leading up to Thanksgiving. Service opportunities Dreamers have led include distributing meals to families in need at the annual Feed-A-Family event in Denver, working at the Cabrini Immigrant Services Food Pantry in New York City, and helping to assemble care packet bags with medicine, first aid, warm socks and hygienic products in Auburn, California.

As Dreamers continue to contribute to their communities, they also anxiously await a permanent legislative solution that will protect them from deportation and allow them to continue living and working in the country they call home. Members of Congress will head home for the holidays in less than three weeks, and as each day passes without a floor vote on Dreamer legislation, our nation moves closer to funding the deportation of America’s Dreamers.

Without Dreamer legislation fully passed and implemented before March 6, starting on that day and every single business day after that for the next nine months, more than 1,700 Dreamers will be stripped of their ability to work, making them priorities for deportation. In total, roughly 800,000 individuals, who are currently employed and contributing as productive members of the American workforce ,would lose their work authorization and could be fired over the course of two years.

Highlights from events include:
