ICYMI: 115 CEOs Call on Congress to Pass Dreamer Legislation by January 19

Below is a release from the Coalition for the American Dream on an ad purchased by 115 major U.S. business leaders, urging Congress to pass legislation by January 19 that would protect Dreamers from deportation. In the letter, the business leaders urge lawmakers to “act immediately and pass a permanent bipartisan legislative solution to enable Dreamers who are currently living, working, and contributing to our communities to continue doing so.”

FWD.us is proud to co-sign this letter along with so many major companies and organizations. FWD.us President Todd Schulte said, “FWD.us is proud to partner with so many influential leaders in the business community to push Congress to pass crucial Dreamer legislation by January 19. We are closer than we have ever been to passing legislation to protect Dreamers permanently, but January is the last chance for Congress to take action before tens of thousands of Dreamers lose their ability to live, work, and contribute to the only country they know.”

Congress must pass legislative protections for Dreamers by January 19, allowing DHS sufficient time to implement any new program. While 14,000 DACA recipients have already lost their work authorizations and protections from deportation, that number continues at 122 individuals per day and will skyrocket to 1,200 per day losing protections after March 5. It is absolutely critical that Congress takes action to prevent hundreds of thousands of Dreamers from falling out of status, placing them at immediate risk of deportation, removal from the workforce, and separation from their families.

Over 115 Top Industry Leaders From Every Sector of the
Economy Sign Open Letter to Congress in Support of Dreamers
Leading Businesses, Trade Associations & Other Organizations Run Full-Page Ads in Wall Street Journal & New York Times in Support of Permanent Legislative Solution by 1/19
WASHINGTON DC – With a deadline for Congress to pass legislation protecting Dreamers rapidly approaching, leaders from over 115 top businesses, trade associations and other organizations today released an open letter to Congressional leaders in the form of full-page ads published in both the New York Times and Wall Street Journal calling on Congress to act before January 19th.

Among those who signed the letter are some of the most recognizable names in American business and they collectively represent nearly every industry supporting the American economy. The text of the letter is below and you can see a copy of the full-page newspaper advertisements, including a complete list of signees, by clicking here.

We write to urge Congress to act immediately and pass a permanent bipartisan
legislative solution to enable Dreamers who are currently living, working, and
contributing to our communities to continue doing so. The imminent termination of
the DACA program is creating an impending crisis for workforces across the country.

It is critical that Congress act to pass legislation before January 19th. This window of
action leaves only 45 days for implementation prior to March 5th. As a bipartisan
group of former DHS secretaries recently wrote, it will take time for the agency to
implement any program outlined by Congress, underscoring the absolute urgency of
the January 19th deadline. In addition to causing a tremendous upheaval in the lives of
DACA employees, failure to act in time will lead to businesses losing valuable talent,
cause disruptions in the workforce, and will result in significant costs.

Studies by economists across the ideological spectrum have also determined that if
Congress fails to act our economy could lose $215 billion in GDP.

We have seen time and again that the overwhelming majority of the American public
of all political backgrounds agrees that we should protect Dreamers from deportation.

While delay or inaction will cause significant negative impact to businesses, hundreds
of thousands of deserving young people across the country are counting on you to
work in a bipartisan way to pass permanent legislative protection for Dreamers
without further delay.
