Last year, New York took a historic leap forward and passed bail reforms that significantly expand pretrial freedom and end cash bail in 90% of cases. As we speak, New York’s newly implemented reforms are transforming its criminal justice system and significantly reducing the number of legally innocent people held in jail because they cannot afford their freedom. Thousands of people are now able to maintain their jobs, housing, and custody of their children while awaiting their day in court.

Unfortunately, some opponents are spreading fear and misinformation to call for rollbacks to the reforms just days after they took effect. Make no mistake: any changes to the new laws would be a step backwards for New York.

It’s crucial that everyone who cares about these reforms stands strong and take action to protect them. New Yorkers are depending on it.
