SCOTUS Decision Day

Breaking: DACA Recipients Win at the Supreme Court!

The Supreme Court has announced its ruling on DACA — and in doing so gave us a critical win for DACA recipients and all of America!

In short, the justices agreed with the lower courts and ruled that the Trump Administration broke the law when it ended DACA. The Supreme Court has reinstated the full 2012 DACA policy.

With this decision, the Supreme Court has validated what so many of us have always known: home wins out.

Today’s DACA decision is a victory, but this is a time when our nation is directly confronting its long history of targeting Black people. We commit that today’s decision won’t deter us from this vital fight, but strengthen our resolve to combat injustice together.

We must continue to push for action together, tell the Trump Administration they must commit to leaving DACA in place, and immediately open new DACA applications. Further, because the coronavirus pandemic has severely limited the ability of USCIS to process and review DACA renewals, President Trump should order USCIS to immediately extend all current renewals that expire within the year.

We also know that DACA doesn’t provide permanent protection for the young people in the program. Tell Congress to act swiftly to permanently provide a pathway to citizenship for DACA recipients and all undocumented immigrants. The Senate must pass the Dream and Promise Act, which would provide Dreamers and TPS recipients with the permanent legislative protections they deserve.

This ruling is a critical win, not just for the 700,000 DACA recipients who came to this country as children and have lived in this country for an average of 22 years, but also our country as it struggles with the coronavirus crisis. DACA recipients represent 200,000 essential workers, including nearly 30,000 health care workers, like doctors and nurses, who are helping communities across the country survive this pandemic.

DACA recipients have long lived in fear that they will be forced to leave their homes, jobs, and loved ones.

DACA recipients are our friends, neighbors, and co-workers. They’re our family. Thank you to everyone who has taken part in this fight and helped win this incredible victory today. The Supreme Court has validated what 86% of the American public has known for years: that Home is Here for DACA recipients and their families. It would not have been possible without you. Together, let’s keep up this momentum and fight for the future DACA recipients — and all immigrants — deserve!
