Over 600 business, faith, and community leaders are in Washington D.C. this week to urge Congress to act on reform. The broad coalition will gather today and tomorrow in our nation's capital to bring attention to the issue of immigration reform as part of Americans for Reform's "Immigration Reform for our Economy, Faith and Security" program.
Kunal Sarda, co-founder of VerbalizeIt, is one of the attendees representing New York and the technology industry at the summit. He shared his thoughts leading up to this week's events with us:
"I'm most looking forward to seeing the many faces of reform--from pastors, farmers to entrepreneurs like myself," said Kunal. "It is important to understand how the lack of immigration reform is hurting every part of the American economy."
"As a first generation immigrant to the US, I have personally experienced how a clear immigration pathway has allowed me to innovate and create a job not just for myself, but for 12,000 other individuals in the US."
"Unfortunately, I see hundreds of immigrant entrepreneurs, much smarter and more capable than myself, have their innovations thwarted by the lack of a clear immigration pathway. It is critical that we recognize the long-term damage we are doing to our economy, and that we fix this right now."
Also at the event will be other FWD.us supporters and immigration reform advocates we've previously highlighted, like Jesus Loya and DREAMer Dayana Torres. Our Fly-in Contest winner, Kyle Poulter, is also on his way.
The main push of the summit will come when attendees visit Capitol Hill on Tuesday to meet face-to-face with members of Congress and their staff. They will bring a range of compelling stories and reasons to support immigration reform
The best part is--you don't have to be in Washington D.C. in order to be involved.
