Peer to peer networks for shared resources have taken on an entirely new meaning with recent innovations in social platforms and a new wave of startups focused on changing how people travel, interact with their governments and use community resources. Recently, important political and legal questions about how these companies fit into our economy have surfaced across the country. On one side of the debate are the startups and organizations at the the forefront of the Sharing Economy, who believe this new movement will help strengthen communities, create new jobs and increase economic opportunities. Meanwhile, critics have raised concerns about the sharing economy’s effect on worker wages, as well as public welfare and safety regulations. Our panelists will address these issues in a conversation about the tech and the sharing economy.
